Our family-owned and operated company is rooted in Sitka. Our owners grew up here, explored these waters as kids, and now are raising young children of their own. It’s about creating an experience where they feel safe, comfortable, curious, excited about the natural world around them, and where parents don’t feel like they have to hold their breath and can enjoy themselves as well.

A Whale Watching Tour Designed With Families in Mind

The owners of Sitka Sea Level Adventures grew up as part of a close-knit family of four siblings—three rambunctious boys and their little sister. Their parents were certainly brave enough to try for that fourth child!

Growing up in Sitka gave them firsthand experience with what it’s like to be a kid in Southeast Alaska. Today, they’re parents themselves, with children ages 9 and 2, they get to share those experiences and pass on the lessons they’ve learned.

That perspective matters when you’re out on the water.

We know kids can be fascinated by the creatures we encounter: an eagle flying overhead, a sea otter floating through the kelp, a sea lion barking, or the moment someone spots the first whale. We also know that children can get cold, tired, restless, or overwhelmed.

Our captains are comfortable working with families and young children, and safety is always our first priority - but like true parenting pros….we have snacks!

We believe a family-friendly whale watching tour should be comfortable for the entire family. That means we welcome questions, curiosity, and excitement. We’re happy to explain what we’re seeing and help all passengers understand the wildlife and environment around them.

What About Babies and Toddlers?

Yes—little ones are welcome aboard Sitka Sea Level Adventures.

Even though babies and toddlers may physically take up less room on a boat, Coast Guard passenger regulations still require them to be counted as passengers and included on the passenger log, thus a booking is required for them as well.

If you’re traveling with a baby, toddler, or larger family group, reach out to us directly. We’re happy to talk through your group, answer questions, discuss accommodations, and see what options may work for your family. We may also be able to offer a young-child or family-specific discount depending on your circumstances.

Our boats provide heated enclosed cabins, panoramic windows, and open decks so families can move between comfortable indoor viewing and outdoor wildlife watching as conditions allow.
